The Prince William Service Authority is performing work and will close Mine Road between Van Buren Road and Route 1 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday from Feb. 20 – April 30.  The road will be closed to through traffic.  Local access will be provided with flaggers directing traffic in the work zone.

See how you can be A Sponsor for Christmas  in Dumfries

The Town of Dumfries is gearing up to celebrate its 12^thAnnual “Christmas in Dumfries” program on December 3, 2011.  The program was originally initiated by several Dumfries Police Department officers in hopes of making Christmas brighter for many children in Dumfries.  In the past we have been able to take approximately 70 children Christmas shopping at the local Wal-Mart and each year every child receives between $50 and $100 to use towards their Christmas purchases. 

As your new Police Chief, I am proud to extend to you a personal invitation to become part of a program geared towards making a child’s Christmas merrier through your donations to the “Christmas in Dumfries” program. All donations will be evenly distributed among the children who live within the Town limits and participate in the program. Our goal this year is to collect $7,000 and take 75 children shopping and with the help of Dumfries’ businesses, organizations and citizens, we hope to reach that goal. Please know that no donation is too small and all donations are welcome and appreciated.  What better way is there to celebrate the holiday than to help put a smile on the face of a deserving child? 

Donations can be made by mailing a check or money order addressed to Town of Dumfries, 17755 Main Street, Dumfries, VA 22026 or by dropping your donation off in person at the Dumfries Town Hall at that same location.  We will be accepting donations from now until December 16, 2011. If you are writing a check, please make it out to “Town of Dumfries” and in the memo put “Christmas in Dumfries Donation”.  We would also like to extend an invitation to you to become an active participant in this program by volunteering your time on December 3, 2011 to assist us in chaperoning the children.  If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact the Dumfries Police Department at (703) 221-1111 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

 In closing, I would like to thank everyone who participated in this program last year for their generous contributions/donations. Without your continued support, this program would not be able to send out the message loud and clear that the people of Dumfries do indeed care.
