Welcome to the Town of Dumfries Department of Planning and Zoning
The goal of our department is to work on behalf of the residents and businesses to plan for the future growth of our community by identifying and putting in place sound planning and land use development practices.
The staff is responsible for working with the citizens and businesses of the Town, the development community, Boards and Commissions and the Elected Officials while managing current and long-term planning and land development.
We are responsible for carrying out the vision and goals set by the Mayor and the Town Council in promoting sensible and positive growth that will ensure the Town of Dumfries remains an economically vibrant and self sustaining community for years to come.
The department works closely with developers to make sure development projects meet the criteria and regulatory policies established by the Town Council.
We also provide long range community planning services related to development, zoning, land use issues, and building code enforcement and inspections, including but not limited to:
- Zoning Changes
- Conditional Use Permits
- Site Plan (development) Reviews
- Variances and Exceptions
- Platting or Replatting of Land
- Setback Requirements
We encourage you to call our office at 703-221-3400 before starting any land development projects, construction (interior and exterior), or demolition so we may properly advise you on the required permits and procedures necessary to move forward with your project.
