Real Estate

All payments can be made in person at Town Hall or mailed to 17739 Main Street, Dumfries, VA 22026. 

You may now pay real estate taxes online with most major credit cards or your check through the secure website OfficialPayments.com or by calling 1-800-272-9829.

Click our pay online link and you will be taken to the site. You will need to enter your personal information, credit card or check information and the Jurisdiction code 6234. Please have your tax bill handy.

Official Payments will charge a convenience fee for this service. You will be able to see what the fee is and accept or decline before making your payment. You will receive a confirmation of payment and your credit card will reflect the payment to the Town of Dumfries and the convenience fee charged by Official Payments.

Real Estate taxes are based on PWC Assessments and are due twice a year on June 5th and December 5th.  The current tax rate is $.1899/100 of assessed value.

Penalty and Interest

A penalty of 10% will be assessed on all late payments.  In addition to penalty, interest of 10% (per annum) will be added to the tax and penalty after July 1st of the succeeding year.

Tax Relief/Discounts/Exemptions

Any person who is exempt from the county’s motor vehicle license taxes or the real property taxes will be exempt from the town’s motor vehicle license taxes or real property taxes.  The taxpayer is responsible for providing proof of such exemption.  Proof of exemption must be provided yearly.  Visit Prince William County Finance Department online or call 703-792-6710 for information regarding available tax relief, discount programs or exemptions.

Personal Property

The Town of Dumfries does not collect Personal Property tax. Personal Property taxes are assessed by and paid to Prince William County.  For more information, visit the PWC Finance Department online or call 703-792-6710.
